Submarine Cable Inspection & Testing
Canpac Marine offers comprehensive submarine cable inspection services utilizing our commercial dive teams with handheld cable trackers, video, and USBL diver beacons. Our ROV’s can be outfitted with TSS cable trackers, high-definition cameras, and other inspection tools. All of our inspection teams have the capabilities to communicate with shore-based client engineers through live video conferencing, allowing the client to see their subsea assets in real time.
-
Our work-class ROVs, rated for depths up to 6,000 meters, are equipped with high-resolution cameras, sonar systems, and manipulators. These features allow for precise visual and sonar-based assessments of submarine cables in diverse underwater environments.
-
Our commercial dive teams are highly experienced in near shore cable inspections. Equipped with surface-supplied air systems and underwater communication devices, they provide:
Visual inspections of cables and related infrastructure in shallow water environments
Hands-on anomaly detection and repair assistance
Support for shore landing construction and maintenance
The divers work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure high-quality inspection results and timely completion of tasks.ext goes here

All of our dive and ROV teams provide real-time video and audio feeds to engineers and client representatives on shore during inspections. This ensures efficient access to inspection data and facilitates faster decision-making by:
Allowing clients to speak directly to ROV and Diver Superintendents during inspections
Reducing the likelihood of incomplete or missing data
Eliminating the need for costly re-inspections after client review
-
We utilize specialized tools, including TSS cable trackers and burial depth measurement systems, to accurately determine the burial depth and positioning of submarine cables. This ensures compliance with design specifications and enhances cable protection.
-
Item descriptionOur advanced monitoring systems are capable of detecting a wide range of issues, including:
External damage from trawling or anchors
Cable exposure or insufficient burial
Joint failures or other structural anomalies
By identifying these issues early, we help clients implement timely maintenance and repairs, reducing long-term risks and costs.
-
For both power and fiber optic cables, we offer comprehensive in-situ testing services, including:
Electrical integrity testing
OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry) testing
Insulation resistance measurement
These tests ensure the reliable performance of submarine cables and provide critical data for long-term asset management.
-
During inspections, we collect data on:
Seabed conditions
Marine growth on cables
Environmental changes that could impact cable integrity
This information supports proactive maintenance planning and environmental compliance.
